2001 Igloo

This was a good year for igloo building in Southern Michigan. A bit too good. I was too ambitious and nearly didn't finish before the rains came. I did finally finish in late January, and three of us spent the night in it.

I've thrown some pictures on the site. Hopefully I'll be able to pretty it up sometime.


For being made of snow, igloos are pretty strong. The walls were two foot thick at the base, one at the top.


(Nearly) finished! Stephanie is peeking out the door.


The rains came the day after we finished. Only the tunnel collapsed, but the joints dissolved. It made for an interesting effect when I put a lantern in it at night!
